Okay, new strategy for getting my reading done AND understanding it: take notes. Why did I not think of this before? (Probably because taking notes is a pain in the ass.) Oh well, it's a good idea, so hopefully I can keep it up. It's kind of irritating because I'm like "Why am I writing this down, when it's already written in the article?" but then I remember that I absorb info in class waaay better when I'm copying it down, so hopefully this will be the same.

In other news, I'm totally getting better at bench presses really quickly (yay!), which means that sometime in the (hopefully) near future, I will meet my second fitness goal: being able to do a push-up. Running is going pretty well -- I can reliably do a mile, but I haven't gotten any farther than that yet. I think I'm going to try to be able to do it a little faster, because otherwise there's no way I can do my entire fitness regimen in the amount of time I have.

I'm also happy because I got good notebooks this semester, which will be nicer for taking notes in. Before I had the spiral bound kind with the spiral at the top, which is good if I need to be turning in homework or something, but a pain when I'm flipping through looking for stuff (because of the bound-at-the-top dealy). I can't use spiral bound at the side because I like to write on both sides of the page, and I hate having a spiral digging into my arm. This time I found at the bookstore some composition book-type things, which are basically smaller, bound at the side, but no spiral. AND, unlike the lab notebooks which are essentially exactly the same, these were only like $2, so I win.

I want a doggie! Too bad I can't have one yet. :P I doubt we'll be moving when our lease is up, but I'm keeping an eye out for any good-looking rentals that allow pets. I doubt we'll find one, considering that I've gotten used to having laundry equipment in our apartment now, and most don't have that. Most also don't have garbage disposals or central air, or include most utilities in the rent. Come to think of it, we've got a pretty sweet deal, except for the no dogs allowed part (too bad, there's totally room for a pug in our apartment, but the management doesn't want barking I think -- they allow cats, but no dogs).

Ben and I talk a lot about how we miss Long Beach. LB is totally awesome (except for the ghetto parts). I would totally move back there. Perfect weather, close to lovely beaches, close to downtown LA (for the LA definition of "close"), lots of scenic drives, close to shopping, great kite-flying beaches, etc etc etc. Lots of really good restaurants too. And a dog beach. Too bad there's not a big tech industry in LB. I guess it's not too far from El Segundo though. Well, maybe when I get some sort of degree from here I'll look for a job in that general area.

Okay, enough procrastinating, back to my reading. Thank god they finished drying the floors on the 4th floor, so the wind tunnel machines aren't running anymore (those things were LOUD!).
