I did it!!!
Jan. 26th, 2005 10:21 amI ran a whole mile without walking! Woohoo! And I have the beginnings of blisters on the arch of my foot, which is not so woo-hoo. But still! I can also bench press the bar 12 times, so Friday maybe I will try it with weights! (We searched around a little, and they do indeed have 2.5-lb weights.)
Today is the first day of classes. I still have not gotten a haircut, but hopefully that will be remedied soon (maybe Friday?). It's snowing AGAIN, and we already have a few inches I think. Of course the two feet from last weekend is still there too. What a mess! You know, snow is exciting when it happens, like, once a month, but this every-three-days thing is starting to get on my nerves. I guess it rained every three days before, so now it has to snow instead, but still. Yesterday when I went to the registrar's office I watched some F&M-type people chiseling icicles off the roof of a dorm. Today I brought my camera with me, so if I wander past anything worth taking a picture of, I will. Of course I will probably just be in this building until 5:30, but still.
It's kind of nice that all my classes are in one building, but at the same time, it was also nice to make sure I got out of the building once a day before. Oh well, maybe I'll take a quick trip to Starbucks at some point. Our first chamber music rehearsal of the semester is (hopefully) tonight, so we'll see how that goes. I haven't heard from the second violinist or our coach -- not hearing from the coach worries me, hopefully he checked his email and will be there tonight, or else we'll all be standing out in the snow without a way to get into the building, and then we'll probably tramp down to the practice rooms and try to cram five people into a teeny booth.
I think the problem with January, in this sort of climate at least, is that this is when you realize that there are still a couple more months of winter to go. How depressing. I'm already sick of having to change my clothes the instant I walk in the door at home because my pants are soaked from snow. Really, I think in the ideal climate, there would still be four seasons, but they would be distributed a little more evenly. Instead of one and a half months each for spring (April-May) and fall (October-November), four months for summer (June - September), and five months for winter (mid-November - mid-April), we should have three months each. I say winter can be December - February, spring will be March - May, summer will be June - August, and fall will be September - November. Doesn't that sound much nicer? Is there anywhere with a climate like that?
