So Pandora introduced me to this bizarre band called Rhapsody of Fire. According to wikipedia, they are "an Italian symphonic power metal band." All their lyrics are like fantasy novels, and they have a large orchestra and choir backing them in addition to the usual drums, guitars, etc. The guy sounds almost like an opera singer, and he has a little bit of a funky accent since he's Italian (they have some songs in Italian too).

Anyway, I thought the chorus of this one song was exemplary:

they are the last hope
for men, dragons, and dwarves
sprits of the forests
shy elves and trolls
five go from Elgard
into the darkness leaving the light
to find the Black Order's
immortal dark rhymes
to find the written words
by Hellgod's unholy son
prevent him from returning
and save the whole world
through the valley of sin
led by the whispers of holy wind
into Dar-Kunor a new saga begins

They also have little interludes where actors read lines like it's a movie, and some songs have narration by Christopher Lee. It's kind of bizarre. However, some of the songs are quite good, like "Silent Dream" which is the first one I heard that introduced me to them.

New favorite creepy song: Queensryche, "Eyes of a Stranger." OK, I don't know if it can really beat out Sufjan Stevens's "John Wayne Gacy, Jr.," but it's definitely creepy. I think I just listened to it on loop about ten times. I even changed my work chat status to "People always turn away from the eyes of a stranger."
