bizarre text message

I just got a message from a number I don't recognize, saying "Hi all. I have a new mobile phone number: (repeat of number I don't recognize)." If you send a message from your NEW number, how are we supposed to know what your old number was in order to identify you?

Anyway, if it was someone reading this, let me know and I'll add it to my address book.
